A vertical mouse holds the hand as if it were about to shake someone rather than lying flat on the desk. For people who feel the difference, that rotation is the whole reason to own one. Apex is the wireless version of the idea: 2.4 GHz with a USB receiver in the box, three DPI settings up to 1600, and browser navigation buttons under the thumb.

  1. The angle is the product

Turning the hand from palm-down toward palm-in takes the twist out of the forearm. Whether that matters is personal and becomes obvious within a day or two of use. Expect a short adjustment period regardless: the first hour with a vertical mouse feels imprecise to everyone, and then it stops.

  2. Tracking and three DPI modes

The optical sensor reads up to 1600 DPI and works on most surfaces including glass, which spares you the search for a mouse pad on an unfamiliar desk. Three switchable settings cover the usual span between a large high-resolution display and precise work in an image editor.

  3. Wireless without pairing steps

It runs on 2.4 GHz with the receiver supplied, so it is plug and play rather than a Bluetooth negotiation. That is the practical choice for a machine that boots into a firmware screen occasionally, since the receiver works before the operating system loads and Bluetooth does not.

  4. Next and previous under the thumb

The two side buttons drive browser and file manager history, which is one of the few extra-button conventions that behaves the same across Windows, macOS and Linux. The mouse itself is compatible with all three without a driver.
