A small tower cooler for the machines that do not need a large one. BlackFrore handles a 65 W thermal design power with two heatpipes in direct contact with the processor lid and a 92 mm PWM fan, in a black electrophoretic finish. It fits both current Intel and AMD desktop sockets and a long list of older ones.

  1. Sixty-five watts covers more than people assume

A great many desktop processors sit at or below 65 W: office machines, home servers, media boxes and the lower and middle tiers of most consumer ranges. For those chips a compact cooler is not a compromise, it is the correct size, and it leaves memory slots and case panels clear in a way a large tower does not.

  2. Heatpipe direct contact

Rather than passing the heat through a copper base plate first, the pipes themselves are machined flat and sit against the processor lid. That removes one soldered interface from the path. It also means the small grooves between the pipes need paste in them, so spread rather than dot when installing this type of base.

  3. A 92 mm fan on the heatsink

Ninety-two millimeters is the size that fits a compact tower without overhanging the memory, and being PWM it can be held near silent at idle and ramped only when the chip is actually working. Fan curves matter more on a small cooler than a large one, because there is less thermal mass to smooth the peaks.

  4. Broad socket support, old and new

The mounting kit covers Intel from LGA 775 through 1200 including 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011 and 2066, and AMD from AM2 through AM4 with FM1 and FM2. That is a useful property in a cooler bought for a rebuild rather than a new build, where the socket is whatever the board already has.
