Check price and buyOne gram is the size for a single machine. This GC-4 syringe holds enough of the micron-particle compound for a processor and a spare attempt, and it ships with an additional applicator so that the layer can be spread deliberately rather than pressed out by guesswork. It is the sensible amount for someone rebuilding one computer rather than stocking a bench.
A large syringe is cheaper per gram and completely wasted if it sits in a drawer for years while one machine gets rebuilt. A gram covers a desktop processor several times over, which is exactly the margin a careful person wants: enough to redo the application if the first pull of the cooler shows uneven contact.
The included spreader turns a blob into a controlled film. On a bare die, or on a cold plate you already know is not perfectly flat, seeing the coverage before the cooler goes down is worth more than any argument about dot versus line. Spread thin, cover the whole active area, and stop.
GC-4 uses an enhanced synthetic filler at a fine particle size, which is what lets a thin layer bridge the microscopic roughness of two machined surfaces without leaving air pockets. Air is the enemy in that gap: it conducts heat roughly a thousand times worse than the compound displacing it.
The compound is electrically non-conductive and non-corrosive, so a smear that reaches a capacitor leg or the edge of a socket is a cosmetic problem rather than an electrical one. Clean it off anyway with isopropyl and a lint-free cloth, but nobody needs to hold their breath while doing it.
