Ten grams is a workshop quantity. It is far more paste than one machine will ever need, and exactly the right amount for a bench that opens several a week: repair work, refurbishing, a rack of identical systems, or a household that has become the default repair desk for everyone it knows. Same GC-4 compound as the small syringes.

  1. Working stock rather than a purchase per job

    The economics change once paste is a consumable. A large syringe removes the small recurring decision of whether there is enough left for the next machine, and it removes the temptation to stretch a thin layer over a chip that deserved a fresh one. Material you have plenty of gets applied properly.

  2. Storage of an open large syringe

    Cap it, keep it upright with the nozzle up, and store it somewhere that does not swing between hot and cold. The compound does not cure, but a syringe left nozzle-down for a year will need a firm first push to get moving again, and that first push is how people end up with far too much paste on a chip.

  3. Consistency across a batch of machines

    When several identical systems are serviced together, using one syringe across all of them removes a variable from any comparison you make afterward. If one unit still runs warmer than its siblings, the compound is not the reason, and that narrows the search considerably.

  4. Do not confuse volume with thickness

    Having plenty encourages a generous layer, and a generous layer is a worse one. The compound is there to fill microscopic gaps, not to form a visible bed between two pieces of metal. Excess squeezes out around the edges and the part that stays behind is thicker than it should be.
