Check price and buyWhen a graphics card gets an aftermarket cooler, the new fan usually has nowhere sensible to plug in. This adapter takes the PWM signal the card produces for its original fan and applies it to a standard four-pin fan, so speed still follows the GPU temperature instead of running flat out all the time.
A graphics card knows its core temperature far better than the motherboard does and adjusts its fan accordingly. Plugging a replacement cooler into a case header throws that away. This adapter keeps the control loop where it belongs, which means the fan is quiet at the desktop and busy under load without any manual intervention.
Aftermarket GPU coolers, replacement fans on a dead original, and any card being rebuilt for quieter running all run into the same connector mismatch. It is a small part that turns an otherwise finished modification into a working one, which is why it is one of the most bought items on these shelves.
Cards vary in how they drive their fans, and a few older or unusual designs use their own control scheme rather than standard PWM. Look at the original fan connector before ordering: four wires and a standard pitch is the case this adapter is built for.
After fitting, run something demanding and watch that the fan speed climbs as the core temperature does. If it sits at one speed regardless, the signal is not getting through and the fan is being powered but not controlled, which is safe but noisy and worth sorting out before you close the case.
