A motherboard fan header is rated for one fan, not four, and hanging a whole front panel off it is how headers die. This splitter separates the two jobs: the four-pin plug carries the control signal from the board, while a Molex connector takes the current straight from the power supply. It runs 42 cm from input to outputs.

  1. Signal from the board, current from the supply

The reason this cable has two inputs is that a fan needs both a speed instruction and the power to obey it. Taking the instruction from the header and the power from a Molex line means four fans can share one curve without four fans sharing one small regulator on the motherboard.

  2. When a plain splitter is not enough

Two fans on a header is usually safe. Four is where the arithmetic gets uncomfortable, especially with high-static-pressure models that draw real current at full speed. If a header has ever cut out under load or a board has reported a fan missing at startup, this is the cable that fixes the cause.

  3. Four fans, one curve, one reading

All four outputs receive the same duty cycle, so group fans that should behave alike: a bank of intakes, or the pair on a radiator. The board still sees only one tachometer signal, so its fan-stall warning watches one of the four and takes the other three on trust.

  4. Soft sleeving over the length of the run

The cable is wrapped along its length, which keeps four branches from fraying against a chassis edge and keeps dust from collecting in the bundle. At 42 cm there is enough reach to put the splitter behind the tray and still land all four plugs at the front of a mid-tower case.
