Check price and buySeventy millimeters is the size people struggle to find. It appears in compact desktop cases, in some small-form-factor machines and in an assortment of equipment that fits neither the 60 nor the 80 mm standard, and options are thin on the ground. This one runs 2200 rpm for 18.8 CFM at 21.8 dBA.
When a 70 mm fan fails, the temptation is to force in something close and live with the gap. Do not: air takes the easy route and a poorly sealed fan mostly recirculates. If a machine you rely on uses this size, a spare in the drawer costs little and saves an improvised solution later.
At 2200 rpm this fan is spinning at roughly half the rate of the 40 mm model while moving more than twice the air. That is the whole argument for using the largest fan an enclosure will accept: bigger and slower beats smaller and faster on both noise and longevity, every time.
The hydro-dynamic bearing is rated at 50,000 hours at 40 C, which is close to six years of running without a break. That figure assumes a reasonable ambient temperature, so a fan in a hot cupboard will not see it. Airflow around the equipment helps the fan last as much as it helps the parts it is cooling.
Overtightened screws distort a plastic frame, and a distorted frame puts the impeller slightly out of true. That shows up as a hum that no amount of anti-vibration mounting will fully remove. Tighten diagonally, firmly, and stop as soon as the frame is held rather than compressed.
