The 24-pin run is the thickest and least cooperative cable in a computer, and in a case with a window it is the one everybody sees. This is a 30 cm replacement in blue single sleeving at 18 AWG, where every conductor carries its own braid rather than the whole bundle sharing one loose jacket.

  1. Single sleeving on the hardest cable to tame

    Twenty-four conductors under one jacket make a flat ribbon that twists where it likes. Sleeved individually, the same wires can be combed into a straight parallel run and will hold that shape, which is the only way the main power cable ever looks deliberate rather than tolerated.

  2. A 30 cm run behind the tray

    This length is sized for the route from a tray cutout to the connector, not for a trip from the power supply across the floor of the case. Measure the actual path before ordering, and remember that the cable needs a generous curve where it meets the plug rather than a right angle.

  3. Eighteen gauge for the main rail

    The main connector carries the board, the memory and a share of everything else, so conductor size is not a cosmetic question. At 18 AWG the cable matches what power supplies normally fit, which keeps voltage drop under load the same as it was with the original.

  4. Seating a stiff 24-pin plug properly

    A sleeved connector of this size needs a firm, square push until the latch clicks, and the common mistake is to stop at the point where it looks home. Support the board from behind while pressing, and never try to close the gap by tightening the case panel against the cable.
