  1. Why 6+2 rather than a fixed 8

    A detachable pair of pins makes one cable fit both connector standards, which matters when a card is replaced more often than a power supply. It also means the same cable can be reused on a future build rather than becoming another orphan in the box of accessories.

  2. Blue in a color scheme

    Sleeved cables in a specific shade are chosen the way a case fan is: to match. A blue run against a dark case reads as deliberate in a way that the black cable supplied in the box does not, which is the entire point of buying one at all.

  3. Handling the two-pin section

    The detachable pair should be clipped firmly to the main body before insertion, not held alongside it. A partially seated 8-pin connector makes contact on some pins and not others, which is exactly the condition that produces heat at the plug rather than an obvious failure.
