Check price and buyOne millimeter is the thickness most benches consume fastest, and the large square is the answer to consuming it fast. This 120 x 120 mm sheet of 12 W/mK GP-Extreme holds enough material for a run of motherboards, a shelf of graphics cards or a season of laptop refreshes, without the packaging and the reordering that the same area in small sheets would involve.
Look at what leaves the drawer over a few months and one or two thicknesses will dominate. For most workshops 1 mm is one of them. Holding the everyday size in bulk and the outliers in single sheets matches the money to the workload, rather than spreading it evenly across sizes that rarely get touched.
Draw the pieces on the liner before the blade comes out. Long strips along one edge, small islands nested into the gaps between them, and the remainder left as a clean rectangle rather than a lace of holes. Ten minutes of planning on a large sheet routinely saves more material than the planning costs in time.
A bulk sheet makes it easy to be generous, and generosity is the wrong instinct with interface material. More thickness than the gap needs holds the assembly apart and lengthens the thermal path. Cut to the measurement even when there is plenty of material, because the pad that helps is the one that fits.
A rotary cutter and a long steel rule work better on a 120 mm run than a craft knife, because a single continuous pass leaves a truer edge than several overlapping ones. Whatever the tool, replace the blade before starting: dragged edges are the most common defect in shop-cut pads.
