When the gap is three millimeters and the area is a hand span, nothing smaller will do. This 120 x 120 mm square of GP-Extreme is the largest and thickest piece in the line, intended for chassis heat spreaders, console shields and any assembly where a whole panel is doing the cooling. It carries 12 W/mK throughout.

  1. Panels that cool by contact

Some designs make a metal panel part of the heatsink and rely on interface material to close the distance. Those contact zones are broad and the gaps are generous, because the panel has to clear everything on the board. A large thick square is the only practical way to cut a pad that shape in one piece.

  2. The most material in the range

At 120 by 120 by 3 millimeters this is by a wide margin the most compound in any single GP-Extreme item. For a workshop that does console repair or small-form-factor builds it is a stock item rather than a purchase for one job, and it will outlast several rounds of thinner sheets.

  3. Cut, do not tear, and change the blade

Thick material punishes a tired blade more than any other. A dragged cut at 3 mm leaves a rough face that will not sit flat and will not compress evenly, and on a panel-sized piece that defect runs the whole length of the contact. Fresh blade, steel rule, one firm pass.

  4. Test the closure before final assembly

With pieces this large, dry-fit the panel with the pads in place and check that every fastener still reaches its thread without force. Three millimeters of filler across a wide area produces real resistance, and finding that out with the screws half-started is better than finding it out with a bowed panel.
