Three millimeters is the deepest gap in the GP-Ultimate range and the place where the choice of compound counts for the most. There is a lot of material in the thermal path at this height, so a 15 W/mK filler measurably outperforms a lesser one. The 90 x 50 mm sheet is sized for shrouds, spreaders and standoff-mounted shields.

  1. Long paths need the better material

Everything else being equal, doubling thickness roughly doubles the resistance a pad contributes. That is why the deep sizes are where a higher-conductivity compound justifies itself most clearly, and why fitting a budget filler in a 3 mm gap wastes more performance than fitting one in a thin gap ever could.

  2. Shrouds, spreaders and dead air

In compact machines the space between a hot part and the metal that will finally carry the heat away is often filled with nothing at all. Turning three millimeters of dead air into a conductive route is one of the few genuinely large improvements available in a laptop or console, and it costs one piece of pad.

  3. Cutting thick material square

Hold the blade vertical and cut in a single pass. A knife that leans produces a wedge-shaped edge, and at 3 mm that wedge is deep enough to leave a visible triangular void along the side of the pad. Against a steel rule with a fresh blade the edge comes out true.

  4. Fit check before the screws go in

Deep pads produce real resistance to closing. Assemble dry with the pads in place, confirm the fasteners reach their threads, and only then tighten in a cross pattern a little at a time. Driving one screw fully home first tilts the plate and rolls the pad underneath it.
