Runs at 2 mm turn up in several places on the same machine: over the power stages, along a memory bank, between a shield and the metal above it. This pack supplies two 120 x 20 mm strips of 15 W/mK GP-Ultimate so that the third run of the afternoon does not have to be measured out of what is left of the first.

  1. Counting runs instead of components

    The useful unit when buying strips is not how many chips need covering but how many continuous runs the job has. A card with a memory row, a power section and a backplate contact has three, and three runs of any length are more than a single ribbon reliably provides.

  2. Continuous pieces over broken ones

    Two short pieces butted end to end leave a seam directly over the board, and a seam is a line of air in the middle of the contact area. With a second strip available there is never a reason to join two offcuts instead of cutting the run in one piece.

  3. Telling the blue compound apart later

    GP-Ultimate is blue where the standard grade is pink, which turns a teardown a year from now into a glance rather than a guess about what was fitted and at what rating. Labeling the liner with the depth before cutting completes the picture for whoever opens the machine next.

  4. The spare as insurance, not as stock

    The second strip is there for the piece that gets stretched while peeling, dropped onto a carpet or cut 10 mm short. None of those are failures worth a second order, and all of them happen on the run that was supposed to be the last one.
