Check price and buyPower delivery is where a motherboard concentrates its heat into a narrow line of components, and that line is exactly what a strip covers. This 120 x 20 mm piece of 1.0 mm GP-Ultimate carries 15 W/mK, which is the highest conductivity in the pad range, and it is aimed at the boards where a stock pad is the limiting part.
Inductors and switching components sit in a row because the layout demands it, and their heatsink is a long bar for the same reason. A millimeter takes up the height variation between parts and the tolerance in a clip-on sink without adding needless distance. It is the most common gap over VRM hardware on desktop boards.
Board manufacturers fit interface material to a budget, and on mid-range products it is often thin, hard and low in conductivity. Replacing it with 15 W/mK material of the correct thickness is one of the few upgrades that costs nothing in noise or power and needs no software. It is also reversible, which most upgrades are not.
Where the heatsink covers components of different heights, a single continuous strip still works better than several pieces. The compound is soft enough to conform around the taller parts, and a continuous piece has no joints where air can sit. Cut the run to length, not the components to shape.
The GP-Ultimate compound is blue rather than the pink of the standard line, which makes it easy to see at a glance which material is on a board you opened six months ago. Beyond the color it handles the same: non-curing, electrically non-conductive, supplied between two liners.
