Check price and buyThe gap that comes up most often on graphics cards is around 1.5 mm, and the components that need it are usually arranged in a line. This 120 x 20 mm strip of GP-Ultimate meets both facts at once, with 15 W/mK of conductivity for the memory packages that tend to be the hottest thing on a card once the core is under control.
On modern cards the core often runs comfortably while the memory sits far higher, because the memory contact is made through pads rather than through a lapped cold plate. That makes the pad the weak link in the chain, and a strip of the highest-conductivity material in the range across a full memory row is the direct fix.
A 120 mm strip reaches across a memory bank in one piece. Every joint between two pads is a thin line of air over a component that needed contact, and joints are what happen when the material on hand is shorter than the run. Take the length in one cut and place it as one piece.
Card designs vary and 1.5 mm is a common answer, not a universal one. The safe method is to close the cooler onto a test piece and look at the impression it leaves: an even compressed footprint means the thickness is right, a mark only at the edges means the plate is bowed, and no mark at all means the pad is too thin to reach.
Moving from 12 to 15 W/mK is a real change but a bounded one, and it will not rescue a pad of the wrong thickness or a heatsink that is not clamping. Fit the right size first and treat the better compound as the last few degrees rather than the first ones.
