The 1.5 mm thickness and the strip format meet in the same place: long runs of components that sit a comfortable distance from their heatsink. Power delivery on a graphics card, memory under a shroud, a backplate that has to reach across a whole board edge. This 120 x 20 mm strip of 12 W/mK GP-Extreme is 2,400 square millimeters of exactly that shape.

  1. Following a row of power stages

Power stages sit in a line by design, because the inductors and the switching components have to share a plane. Heatsinks over them are long and thin for the same reason. A strip matches that geometry so closely that most VRM jobs need one straight cut and nothing else.

  2. The most useful thickness in strip form

At 1.5 mm there is enough material to absorb the height differences between an inductor, a MOSFET and a bare patch of board, and still enough compliance for a light clamp to close the assembly. That combination is why this thickness moves quickest in both formats.

  3. Waste is the hidden cost of the wrong format

Cutting four long strips out of a square sheet leaves a perforated remnant that is awkward to use for anything else. Starting from a strip means the leftover is another strip, shorter but just as usable. Over a few jobs that adds up to real material rather than a drawer of scraps.

  4. Same non-curing compound, different outline

Format changes nothing about the material. It is the same electrically non-conductive, non-corrosive GP-Extreme filler rated at 12 W/mK, supplied at 1.5 mm between liners. Choosing the strip is a decision about geometry, not about performance.
