The 2 mm depth covers the gaps a full-length cooler shroud leaves over everything that is not the core, and a card has several of them. This pack supplies two 120 x 20 mm strips of 12 W/mK GP-Extreme, which is enough to do a graphics card and a motherboard power section without measuring out the last few centimeters.
Two strips against a long shopping list
A card being rebuilt usually wants a run over the memory, another over the power stages and something for the backplate side. Those three runs together are longer than one ribbon, and the piece that comes up short is always the last one, when the cooler is already off and the board is waiting.
Cutting with room to be wrong
A strip cut 5 mm short is scrap, not a near miss, because interface material that stops before the end of a component leaves exactly the corner that overheats. Working from a pair means the first cut can be the careful one rather than the irreversible one.

GP-Extreme does not cure, dry out or separate on a shelf, so the second strip is a reserve rather than a countdown. Keep it flat with both liners on and it will cut the same way in a year as it does today, which is more than can be said for a part-used syringe of paste.
