Three millimeters along a 120 mm run is a lot of material, and the assemblies that need it tend to need several runs at once: a shroud here, a chassis spreader there, a shield that stands clear of the board on posts. Two strips of 12 W/mK GP-Extreme at this depth cover that kind of job in one sitting.

  1. Where the deepest strip earns its place

Compact builds and consoles use the case as part of the cooling, and the distance from a hot part to that metal is both large and inconsistent. At 3 mm the filler can bridge it along an entire edge in one piece, absorbing the variation instead of forcing the panel to flex over it.

  2. Volume, not area, is what runs out

A deep pad consumes six times the material of a half-millimeter one for the same footprint, which is why a single sheet that looked generous disappears after two runs. Pricing the job by the length of the runs rather than by the number of components is the way to avoid stopping halfway.

  3. A fresh blade and a steel rule

Thick filler drags on a tired blade and tears rather than parts, and a torn face will not seat flat anywhere along its length. Change the blade first, cut against a rule with the knife held vertical, and make one firm pass. The spare strip means a ragged cut can simply be discarded.

  4. The rating covers both depths in the pack

Because the 2 mm and 3 mm two-piece packs sit under one listing with a size menu, they share a rating and a review count between them. The number describes the material and how it arrives rather than this depth specifically, which is the one thing only your own measurement can settle.
