If one thickness deserves to be bought two at a time, it is 1.5 mm. It is the size that keeps turning up on graphics-card memory rows and under backplates, and it is the size most likely to run out mid-job. Two 80 x 40 mm sheets of 12 W/mK GP-Extreme give you a full card plus a comfortable reserve for the next one.

  1. Why the common size runs out first

Bench stock does not deplete evenly. The thicknesses that match the most designs get cut into every week while the outliers sit untouched for months. Buying the everyday size in pairs is simply matching supply to how the drawer actually empties, and it means a repair does not stall over a strip of material.

  2. Enough area for a card and a spare

A memory row on a typical card takes a strip perhaps 70 mm long and 12 mm wide, plus small islands for the power stages. One sheet handles that with room over. The second gives you the backplate side, or the next card, without the wait.

  3. Cut both sheets from the same template

When a shop sees the same board more than once, it pays to make a card template from thin plastic the first time the cooler comes off. With two identical sheets in hand you can cut a complete set for two boards in one pass, and the pieces will be interchangeable rather than each one a fresh piece of freehand work.

  4. Storage between jobs

Keep the unopened sheet flat and out of direct sun, and keep the opened one in a resealable bag with its liners still attached. This filler does not dry out or harden, so its shelf life is limited mostly by how much dust and fluff it collects on the bench.
