Three millimeters is the thickness that runs out fastest, because the gaps that call for it are the biggest ones on the board. Console heat spreaders, laptop shrouds and standoff-mounted shields all want long, wide pieces. This pack puts two 80 x 40 mm sheets of 12 W/mK GP-Extreme in the box so a full teardown can be finished in one session.

  1. Console and notebook work in one pass

Compact systems tend to need several thick pieces at once: one over the power section, one linking a shroud to a board, one under a chassis panel that doubles as a heat spreader. Trying to do that from a single sheet usually means compromising on the last piece. Two sheets removes the compromise.

  2. The blade matters more at 3 mm

A dull knife drags rather than cuts through thick filler, leaving a torn face that will not seat flat. Change the blade before starting rather than halfway through, and cut against a metal rule with the blade held vertical. With two sheets in hand there is also no penalty for scrapping a cut that came out ragged.

  3. Thick does not mean forgiving

It is tempting to treat a deep pad as a cushion that will absorb any error, but the opposite is closer to the truth. A thick piece that is oversized will hold a shield off its posts, and one that is undersized will tilt under clamp. Measure the island, cut to it, and let the thickness do only the job it was chosen for.

  4. Long-term storage of bulk material

Unopened, this compound is stable and does not harden, so the second sheet can sit in a drawer until it is needed. Keep it flat, keep both liners on, and avoid stacking heavy tools on top of it, since 3 mm material takes a permanent impression from anything left pressing on it.
