Check price and buyThree millimeters is the top of the GP-Extreme range and it exists for gaps that would otherwise be filled with air. Console heat spreaders that clear a tall APU package, laptop fan shrouds that touch a heatpipe on one side and a board on the other, and shields standing off on structural posts all need this much material. The 80 x 40 mm sheet delivers 12 W/mK across the whole distance.
Compact systems often use the chassis itself as part of the cooling path, and chassis panels sit a long way from the components they draw heat from. A 3 mm filler turns that dead air into a conductive route. It also absorbs the flex that a plastic shell introduces, which a rigid spacer never could.
At 3 mm the material is substantial enough to stand on its own edge, so cuts come out clean and pieces are easy to place. The blade should still go all the way through in one pass; part-cutting and tearing leaves a ragged face that will not sit flat against a shield. A long straight edge and firm, even pressure do the job.
A thick pad is sometimes reached for as a way to make a mismatched heatsink work. It rarely ends well. Interface material is there to fill microscopic roughness and small manufacturing tolerances, not to bridge a mechanical error. If a cooler needs 3 mm of filler in a place the design intended to be flush, the mounting hardware is the part to look at first.
Deep gaps are usually large ones, so this thickness disappears faster than any other in the range. Plan the whole job before cutting, take the biggest pieces first, and keep the narrow strips that come off the edges for smaller islands. Nothing here cures or dries, so a well-stored remnant is as good next year as it is today.
